by Cameron Dodds
A Musical Reimagining of the Epic 1889 French Novel ‘Victoire et Appoline, ou, Comment Écrire une Biographie Historique’ by Desmond Codar Condensed into Six Short Minutes was commissioned by Listenpony, and first performed at Listenpony #14, June 2017, by Magnard Ensemble.
Cameron writes:
The piece was inspired by a profound hatred of Proust and an attempt to “weird” epic Romantic narratives utilising tropes from sci-fi, experimental philosophies, and Dada-ist principles. At the time I was starting to explore how fiction could manifest in music outside of usual recourse to text.
This piece fed into a more recent piece called Etude #1: Hugo Wolf
