Tombeau

by Alastair Putt

Tombeau was commissioned by Listenpony, and first performed at Listenpony #12, November 2016, by Liam Byrne.

Of the piece, Alastair says:
Tombeau was written in memory of my dear friend Tessa John who passed away tragically young in 2016. It is modelled after the various tombeaux of Baroque composers such as Weiss and Marais, usually written for viol or lute, and which memorialised friends or patrons.

The piece shares a melancholy atmosphere with a more recent, larger work for children's choir and harp, Under the Giant Fern of Night.
